Follow the track log from Frisco at the 203 exit of I-70 to Montezuma. The track log turns left and begins to climb through tree line. When the trail breaks out of tree line the views are spectacular. There are many abandoned mines in this area but most are caved in. Be cautious when the trail reaches the top and begins to descend.
You may want to walk the trail to be sure there is a safe turn around spot. Snow was blocking the right fork in mid July. This is a lightly traveled trail that is one of my favorites. When you reach the top return to Montezuma the way you came up and proceed to the Peru trail.
The left fork has been chained off but the right fork leads to several interesting old mine sites. Follow the track log back to Frisco, Colorado.
