Wheeler Lake Trail

Follow the track log from Route 9 on County Road 4. The trail starts out as a gravel road and turns into a very challenging 4WD trail. The first obstacle is a large rocky area the left side is perhaps the easiest way and the center is the most difficult and the right side has a wedgy that is challenging but doable.

From there the trail becomes a series of small to basketball size loose rocks and much of the trail is covered with water. High ground clearance and four wheel drive is essential, lockers would be desirable. Most of the trail at the time the brush was some what of a problem on the track. This trail is a very narrow one way trail and passing can become very difficult, always be on the lookout for a place to turn into to let people coming from the opposite direction to pass by. The trail becomes more difficult near the top where there is a sharp hairpin turn to the right. Some of the more difficult obstacles are on this part of the trail. At the top of this section is a muddy area with a good sound bottom.

The trail ends at a very scenic Wheeler lake, there are a number of hiking areas and straight ahead and to the left is a mine cut into solid granite some hikers with flashlights explore a short distance into the mine. The trip back down is a rerun of the trip back up only easier because of the decent.
