North Fork of the Swan – Deer Creek Loop Trail

This loop trail starts north out of Breckenridge, CO on Route 9. Follow the track log up the North Fork of the Swan. This trail is moderate when dry but can become a real challenge after a big rain. After crossing the Swan there are some steeper climbs. Above tree line turn right and look at an old cabin sitting in the open that is still used. Follow the track log to the start of the Deer Creek trail that descends into Montezuma.

If you feel adventuresome follow any of the many trails in this area. It is above tree line so the views are really nice. Look for one of several mountain goat herds in the area. They can be approached closely in vehicles. After exploring return to the Deer Creek trail to go to Montezuma and back to Breckenridge or descend back down the North Fork to Breckenridge.
